Is my laptop really unfixable?!?

Basically I have a well loved Acer Aspire 7735 model laptop, then the power jack bit (where you plug the charger in) basically stopped working and now its completely buggered, that's literally the only problem. I've taken it into various computer repair shops and friends who work with laptops and they say it can't be fixed, is this true?! It's just a power socket and I'm reluctant to throw a laptop out purely because of that
