Overdue and having contractions that come and go? Why?

So for the past two nights, I have been kept awake or woken up to what I believe are contractions. They will stay for about 4 hours about 5-6 min apart and then go away the rest of the day. There might be one here and there but sometimes it's hard to tell when my baby is stretching in what little area she has left (OUCH). I keep hoping that this is it because I'm now 5 days past due and scheduled to be induced late Wednesday night. I would rather go naturally even though I'm aware that pregnancies can go the opposite of what you've "planned". Also, they are really intense when I'm laying down on my side. When I sit up or walk around they're not as intense or noticed so that might be another reason why I'm not sure they're around during the day. They're more prominent at night. Why won't these buggers just stick around so I can have this baby already? Argh!
